Day 1 Day 2
| |
| I took part in a Titan Tours tour of the D-Day Beaches from
19 - 22 May 2003, with Prof. Richard Holmes. I have also been on WW1
tours and a summary of these is on my site for the York
& Lancaster regiment. As with the Somme trip, Richard's
style and enthusiasm for his subject made the four days a very enjoyable
and informative tour through the action that took place on the 6th June,
1944. |

|
| The trip was; coach trip to Bayeux, and
then people taking their own wander round the old town, and a few local
kerb-side beers! Richard gave a talk in the evening; day
1 was Pegasus Bridge, the British Beaches (Sword, Juno, Gold),
Arromanches and the Longues Shore Battery, and another talk by Richard in
the evening; day 2 was the Museum at Bayeux
(excellent), Omaha and Utah beaches, Pointe du Hoc and then
Sainte-Mer-Eglise. The last day was a free morning in Bayeux with
most people taking the time to visit the Bayeux Tapestry museum, then the
trip home. |
| I'm off on a similar tour of Arnhem in September
and Verdun next April, both with Richard Holmes. |
